The highly anticipated final season of “Game of Thrones” premiered Sunday night, throwing the internet into a tailspin after some users faced glitches and app crashes while others got to watch the season premiere earlier than anticipated.

Some HBO Go users reported issues, Hulu users say the app crashed and DirectTV Now threw in a surprise (accidental) perk — the first episode of season 8 became available to stream over three hours ahead of schedule.

The season 8 debut was expected to be more popular than last season’s finale, which broke a record two years ago when it was viewed by 12.1 million viewers, according to HBO.

The monitoring website DownDetector.com reported that HBO GO began having issues at 7:25 p.m. EST. “Game of Thrones” was set to premiere on the platform at 9:00 p.m. EST.

The website showed that some users in the United States, Mexico and pockets of Latin America were experiencing issues.

HBO Go acknowledged in a tweet that some users in Latin America were having difficulty accessing the platform.

“If you’re having difficulty accessing #HBOGO in Latin America, please connect to live chat at http://help.hbogola.com,” HBO Go posted on Twitter.

HBO programming is also offered through the streaming service Hulu, which also saw outages according to users.

Subscribers from all over the U.S. reported the outage to DownDetector, starting at 7:53 p.m. EST.

One Twitter user tweeted at Hulu saying, “Ummm your apps HBO feature definitely did not work last night, thank God I have Amazon prime as a backup. you had 1 job, and you failed. I will be removing the HBO feature first thing tomorrow morning.”

Is @hulu already having problems cause of @GameOfThrones or is it just my account not working? 😱 hope this isn’t a sign of how tonight is going to go.

DirectTV Now dropped the episode early to the surprise of some viewers.

The episode steamed on DirecTV Now around 5:30 p.m. EST – three and a half hours ahead of its HBO premiere.

AT&T, which owns both DirecTV and HBO, told USA TODAY, “Apparently our system was as excited as we are for Game of Thrones last night and gave a few DirecTV Now customers early access to the episode by mistake. When we became aware of the error, we immediately fixed it.”

USA TODAY reached out to Hulu for more information.
